Employment

Work and employment play a fundamental role for the social integration and personal fulfilment of an individual. The lack or loss of employment is often a trigger factor that leads to homelessness. For people experiencing homelessness, reintegration into occupational activities and employment is crucial in order to move out of poverty and social exclusion. It helps in establishing a social network, gaining experience, improving skills, developing self esteem and moving towards financial independence.

Since its creation in 2002, FEANTSA's employment working group brings together experts in the area of employment and homelessness from eight EU countries. Its aim is to discuss and develop effective approaches to tackle homelessness and housing exclusion through the inclusion of people who are homeless into employment and related activities. The working group closely monitors European employment policies and regularly publishes background papers and policy statements. It is also forum for mutual learning and sharing of good practices.

FEANTSA is developing a European Employability and Homelessness Forum in order to reach out to partners outside of the homelessness sector. The forum aims to provide a platform for transnational exchanges on employment and homelessness through the newsletter "Employability and Homelessness" and an online database.

Employability and Homelessness Newsletter
This newsletter features interesting employability initiatives for people experiencing homelessness and presents latest information resources on this topic.

Employment and Homelessness Database
