'Ending homelessness is possible! How can the EU effectively contribute to the fight against homelessness?'
On the 14th April 2010 at the European Parliament, Brussels 15.00 - 18.00 FEANTSA launched its campaign with a hearing called 'Ending homelessness is possible! How can the EU effectively contribute to the fight against homelessness?' This event was co-organised by FEANTSA, Liz Lynne MEP, Britta Thomsen MEP, Karima Delli MEP, Ilda Figueiredo MEP, Jacek Protasiewicz MEP and Projekt Udenfor. Speakers included:
-László Andor, Commissioner responsible for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion -A panel of the above MEPs -Carlos García de Cortázar, Councillor, Coordinator on Employment and Social Affairs, Spanish Permanent Representation -Phillipe Courard, Belgian Secretary of State for Social Integration and the Fight against Poverty -Eric Marlier, International Senior Advisor CEPS/INSTEAD -René Kneip, FEANTSA President -Peter Juul, Head of Division, Danish Ministry of Interior and Social Affairs
The event was an opportunity to debate and discuss the ways in which the EU can facilitate effective action to tackle homelessness. The event also launched the publication 'Ending Homelessness: a Handbook for Policy Makers' and FEANTSA member Projekt UDENFOR's exhibition of life-size sculptures of homeless people by the Danish artist Jens Galschiřt.
On that occasion, the involved MEPs signed a common statement on ending homelessness. Read the statement on our European Parliament page.
